Small Groups

Hills Groups

Hills groups exist to bring people together and grow in our relationship with Christ. We believe God created us to live in relationship with others and only then can we live the full life He intends for us. Sharing life with God in mind through community is part of our design, but meaningful relationships aren’t always easy to find. That’s why small groups exist—to make these life-changing relationships relevant and accessible to you.

Evening Groups

For Those Exploring Christianity or New BelieverAlpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the basics of the Christian faith. Anyone in this group is free to explore life, faith and God in a friendly, open and informal environment. In each session, there will be a snack, a short talk via video and then an open discussion amongst the group participants. The video talks explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christian faith, addressing questions like “who is Jesus?”, “why and how do I pray?” and “how does God guide us?” The group discussion allows people to share their thoughts and questions about the talks without being judged.

If you are interested in exploring the Christian faith, or you are new to the Christian faith then this course is designed specifically for you.
Date: Wednesdays 7 – 9 p.m. Beginning Feb 15 for 11 weeks, No cost. For location details Please contact Pastor Jan at

GATEKEEPER *continuation from fall session*

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”Acts 1:8 NKJV

During the fall semester, we have been learning about our position in Christ, who we are in Christ; we are the sons and daughters of the Living God. Because we are the children of God Almighty, we have power and authority in this world given to us by Jesus Christ. We are not orphans, Christ sent the Holy Spirit to guide us and to help us. We are more than conquerors. Then, we were taught how the Holy Spirit works in our own personal life. In the coming months, we will be learning of how the Holy Spirit works in our service to Him. We will be forming many types of testimonies to bring into the marketplace so that we will be prepared as the Holy Spirit leads to speak of the testimony that is best suited for that situation. We will be practicing listening to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and using His gifts in the marketplace so that Jesus’ name will be glorified.

THE BOOK OF JAMES  (Francis Chen)

True faith produces fruit. A faith without action and without life change is ultimately a dead faith. The book of James speaks to the realities of a living faith in Jesus—the kind of roll-up-your-sleeves and get-your-hands-dirty discipleship that is borne out of an authentic relationship with the risen Lord. James writes to believers who know suffering, who’ve faced trials, and who ultimately desire a deep relationship with God.
Francis Chan unpacks the dense truth contained in the book of James in front of the iconic backdrop of San Francisco, the city where he lives and ministers. Through 12 sessions, Francis works through James verse-by-verse, challenging followers of Christ to move beyond a private, intellectual knowledge of God and His Word, to a vibrant faith that impacts every square inch of life.
Date: Thursdays 7 – 9 p.m. Beginning Jan 26, 2017. For 12 weeks. Cost $5.00. For location details Please contact Pastor Jan at

For this group we decided to get back to some basics. The Bible talks about how believers should crave the word just as a natural baby craves milk. However so often rather than getting the nutrition of good milk, we settle for the fake and unfulfilling. This group plans to focus on feeding that deep craving in us all. God calls us to community with others and we hope through this group to build a community based on our desire to study the Bible and that alone. Anyone who is motivated to study the Bible is welcome. We plan to meet in a coffee shop each week and sped time going through the scripture and getting to know one another. If you feel you don’t have a place, then join us in our search of scripture and community.
Date: Thursdays 7 – 9 p.m. Beginning Jan 26, 2017. For 8 weeks. Cost free. For location details Please contact Pastor Jan at

GODS AT WAR (Kyle Idleman)

There are gods at war within each of us. They battle for the throne of our hearts, and much is at stake. This is why idolatry is the most discussed problem in the entire Bible. Behind every sin struggle that you and I have is a false god that is winning the war in our lives. Don’t give in to the myth that gods are only statues that people of other cultures or long ago worshiped. Pleasure, romance, sex, money, and power are just a few of the gods that vie for our allegiance in today’s society. Join Kyle Idleman in this new study, as he explores these gods. When the Lord God takes His rightful place on the throne of our hearts, we will have victory.
Date: Tuesday, 7 – 8:45 p.m. Beginning Jan 24 for 6 weeks. Cost $15. For location details contact Pastor Jan at

These are confusing times for many Christians. Traditional biblical values are not only rejected; it seems as if they’re attacked on every front. It’s all happened at warp speed, leaving many of us spiritually and culturally disoriented or even fearful, frustrated, and angry. How can we spiritually survive in an increasingly spiritually hostile environment? And is there any hope for the next generation?
In this 5-session series, Larry Osborne introduces us to a man forced to live in a last-changing and godless society. This man faced fears about the future, concern for his safety, and the discouragement of a world that seemed to be falling apart at warp
That man was Daniel, and with the power of hope, humility, and wisdom, he not only survived, but thrived.
Each session also includes real-life stories of people struggling to thrive in an ever-increasing godless society. Though Daniel lived thousands of years ago, he has much to teach us today.
Date: Monday, 7 – 9 P.m. Beginning Feb 6 for 5 weeks. Cost $5.00 (handouts) $20 (book) For location details contact Pastor Jan at

THE ARMOR OF GOD (Priscilla Shirer)

All day, every day, an invisible war rages around you — unseen, unheard, yet felt throughout every aspect of your life. A devoted, devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you: your heart, your mind, your marriage, your children, your relationships, your resilience, your dreams, your destiny. But his battle plan depends on catching you unaware and unarmed. This Enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion. The Armor of God, more than a mere biblical description of the believer’s inventory, is a God-given action plan to the believer for putting on God’s protection while developing a personalized strategy to secure victory
Date: Thursday 12:30 – 2:30p.m. starting Jan 5 – Study begins in February for 7 Weeks. Cost $20.00. Children welcome with parental supervision. For location details Please contact Pastor Jan at

ART JOURNALING *space limited to 4*

Life is routine, scheduled, constant. Art is dreaming, painting, imagining, inspiring, colouring out of the box, making marks, playing, asking ‘what if’, creating… Maybe you feel like you have lost yourself, ‘Who am I?’ Maybe you just want a friend, mentor, or just some quiet time to breathe.
Art is my happy place; its where I come alive! If you feel like this, maybe art journaling would be a good fit for you! This class is not a Bible study, it is simply a class where we can share life through Art. It is taking our inner hearts and expressing them visually; writing scripture, writing prayer… with artistic freedom!
Date: Tuesdays 12:30 – 2:30 Beginning Jan 24 for 8 weeks. Cost $30. For location and child care options Please contact Pastor Jan at

PAUSE (Andy Stanley) *space limited to 10*

Temptation isn’t new. From the apple in the garden, to the gal with the cute smile, to the slightly illegitimate business deal, we all face temptation. But why can’t we just walk away?
In this 4-part series, Andy Stanley takes a closer look at the temptations Jesus faced in the desert to identify the driving forces behind the temptations we face every day. Once we realize what is behind temptation, and what is at stake every time we’re tempted, we can find the confidence to respond as Jesus did.
Date: Saturday, 9:45 – 11:30a.m. Beginning Jan 28 for 9 weeks. Cost Free. For location details Please contact Pastor Jan at
